What Is a Concrete Batching Plant?

A concrete batching plant generally produces ready-mix concrete on an industrial scale, delivered by truck mixer. Its high performance facilitates production of various concrete types: conventional, fiber-reinforced, prestressed, self-compacting, self-leveling, pervious, porous, no-fines and others. Essential to concrete work, a batching plant produces large quantities of mortar quickly. Different production capacities are available depending on component sizes and the project you want to undertake. Our VESS concrete batching plants come in small, medium and large capacities.

A concrete batching plant consists of several main components, including:

  • A cement silo
  • An aggregate silo
  • An admixture container
  • A dosing tank
  • A weighing system
  • Pumps
  • A mixer

Stationary Concrete Batching Plants

Stationary batching plants supply large quantities of concrete to construction sites. They eliminate the need for a dedicated material storage area on the construction site, reducing the risk of deterioration.

What are the advantages of stationary concrete batching plants?

  • A permanent production site
  • Large production volumes
  • Convenient operation and maintenance on a spacious site
  • Flexible configuration
  • Suitable for installation on specially configured sites

How does a concrete batching plant work?

Essential to concrete work, a batching plant produces large quantities of mortar quickly. Although mainly operated by professionals, it serves the public, particularly through construction.

A concrete batching plant is generally designed for automatic operation. Each system integrated into its automation can be controlled from a dedicated control cabinet:

  • Weighing control

  • Material transport

  • Concrete moisture control

  • Concrete compaction level

  • Mixing the ingredients

During preparation itself, the plant’s operation can be divided into five distinct stages:

  • Aggregate supply: Inert materials or aggregates are transferred from the silo to the dosing vessel, generally using a dedicated conveyor or skip. Depending on the concrete ordered, a screen may be used to obtain the appropriate particle size distribution for the required material.
  • Adding ingredients: Cement, water and admixtures are transferred from their silos to holding hoppers through pumps and feed conveyors.
  • Mixing: All the ingredients defining the mortar type are mixed for a specified period. Mixing time generally depends on the relationship between mixer volume and the quantity of material to be produced.
  • Transfer: The mortar is transported to the pouring location in a truck mixer or a concrete bucket.
  • Return to the plant: when a truck mixer is used for delivery, mortar residues remain inside the mixer and are removed during cleaning.

When should a concrete batching plant be used?

Concrete batching plants are used and preferred by building and civil engineering companies for large construction projects. These companies favor ready-mix concrete for work on major sites. This solution gives them the quantity of mortar they need in real time.

This arrangement lets professionals manufacture the required mortar on site and use it directly, because the plant is installed beside the work area.

Such an installation also allows precise control of every component of the construction material. This ensures workmanship quality, since the concrete used on site complies with current regulations. Finally, a concrete production unit minimizes raw-material delivery delays that could prolong construction work.
