Dnepropetrovsk is the administrative center of Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk region. Originally called Yekaterinoslav, it was renamed Novorossiysk by Paul I. According to 2006 figures, the city had 1,047,000 residents. It lies on the Dnieper River.
